NCAA picks: Just one upset in Week 1; will there be more in Week 2?

Sep. 6—It was a typical first week of college football as there was only one upset and all the other ranked teams handled business against nonranked opponents.

Some ranked teams may have had a scare, but ultimately they all came out on top, except Florida State. Which, shame on me for not picking Boston College to come out on top.

I even slammed the Seminoles to start my column last week but didn’t have to guts to go ahead and pick them to lose again.

Week 2 might offer more potential upsets if you’re a fan who likes to see the underdog win. There’s a list of games I’d keep my eye on.

First, I think Arkansas has a shot to go into Stillwater, Oklahoma, and beat No. 16 Oklahoma State. I’m not confident, but I see the potential. I liked what OSU did in Week 1 against the FCS national champions from last year in South Dakota State.

No. 17 Kansas State doesn’t have an easy game by any stretch. Playing at Tulane — a football team that’s been on the rise in recent years — won’t be a walk in the park.

Also, No. 23 Georgia Tech playing at Syracuse will be a fun one to watch. I’m not sure if this is a bona fide upset, but Georgia Tech is favored and ranked while Syracuse is not.

Iowa State could go to No. 21 Iowa and pull off an upset. I don’t know if I believe in it happening, but it’s another potential one to watch. Iowa won last year and has won the Cy-Hawk trophy seven out of the last eight meetings.

Lastly, Illinois hosts No. 19 Kansas, and I’m not sold that KU is in the clear on this one. KU won at home last year in this game. But the Jayhawks better not look past this one.

Let’s get into my picks:

11 A.M. GAMES

No. 3 Texas (1-0) at No. 10 Michigan (1-0): Start things off with the best game of the day. The Longhorns are going to be a legit College Football Playoff contender. But are they ready for this defense in Week 2? I…
