Auburn football came out on fire in its season opener against Alabama A&M in Week 1.
The Tigers earned a 73-3 victory over the Bulldogs despite a second half featuring two 10-minute halves after Auburn jumped to a 52-3 halftime lead. Quarterback Payton Thorne completed 13-of-21 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns, while Malcolm Simmons had three catches for 91 yards and a score. Freshman sensation receiver Cam Coleman finished with two receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Now Auburn will turn its attention to one of the newest members of the ACC in Cal. The Bears are coming off a 31-13 victory over UC Davis. Following a slow start, including a 13-7 second-quarter deficit, Cal scored 24 unanswered points to win. Fernando Mendoza was 15-for-22 passing for 158 yards and a touchdown, with Jadyn Ott adding 49 rushing yards and two scores.
Auburn defeated Cal 14-10 last season on Sept. 9, 2023, in Berkeley, California, in the only matchup between the two programs in their histories. Thorn hit Rivardo Fairweather on a 5-yard touchdown with 6:31 left in the game to clinch the victory for the Tigers.
