Top-ranked EDGE Javion Hilson decommits from Florida State football

If Florida State is looking for any silver linings from a nightmarish start to the year, they won’t find it in their recruiting class this week.

Cocoa’s Javion Hilson, the top edge rusher in Florida, announced his decommitment from the Seminoles on Sunday evening. The 6-foot-4, 235 pound senior was one FSU’s highest-rated recruits in this class, but has now reopened his commitment.

After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment. I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support.

“Shoot, right now, I’m not paying attention to Florida State right now,” Hilson told USA Today five days before making his decision. “I’ve been watching the games and stuff but I’m kind of locked in with high school, working on leaving my legacy at Cocoa and just dominating this season.

This is the second time Hilson has decommited from a program. He was originally pledged to Alabama, but flipped to the Seminoles a few days after Nick Saban announced his retirement.

Hilson has helped the Tigers to a 2-1 start, and has tallied 24 total tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, and five quarterback hurries. He’ll make his third and final decision in December.

Hilson isn’t the only high-end defensive piece to walk away from the Seminole’s this week. Port Charlotte defensive lineman Myron Charles (No. 31 in the USA Today Florida Top 100) flipped from FSU to Texas on Saturday in another blow to Mike Norvell’s 2025 class.
