Vols’ current streak of not allowing defensive touchdown is longest stretch since 1985

No. 9 Tennessee (2-0) enters Week 3 with a defensive streak the Vols’ football program has not achieved since 1985.

Tennessee’s defense has not surrendered a touchdown in three straight games, the longest streak since the 1985 season.

The Vols won the Southeastern Conference championship and the Sugar Bowl versus Miami in 1985 under head coach Johnny Majors.

From Oct. 26-Nov. 9, 1985, Tennessee allowed six points to Georgia Tech (two field goals), shutout Rutgers and held Memphis to seven points (blocked punt return for a touchdown).

Tennessee’s current streak dates to the 2024 Citrus Bowl versus Iowa (W, 35-0), defeating Chattanooga, 69-3, to open the 2024 season and a Week 2, 51-10, win versus North Carolina State. The Wolfpack’s only touchdown in the contest was returning an interception for a score.
