LaMoure/Litchville-Marion’s Mason Warcken leading potent Loboes offense

Sep. 11—LAMOURE, N.D. — If there are any nerves that Mason Warcken feels stepping into the starting quarterback job as only a sophomore, it hasn’t shown through the first three games of the season.

“I was a little nervous (before the season opener) but I realized that I have a lot of talent around me and there’s no way that I could mess up with all the talent around me,” Warcken said. “So it was pretty easy.”

Through the season’s first three games, Warcken has been a part of a team that has outscored their opponents 185-30. As of Monday, Sept. 9, the Loboes are ranked atop the NDAPSSA 9-man football poll.

“Mason’s been a nice addition to our offense at the quarterback position, just being able to make the throws that he can make,” Loboes head coach Andy DelaBarre said. “He’s got a good arm and throws a nice ball … We’re starting to see more and more of him progressing each week. This is his first real experience with the varsity side of playing football. Our offense is a lot more dynamic and we’ve been able to expand the playbook. Coach (Lucas) Isaacson has really been able to build upon what we’ve been able to do in our ground game and now with Mason at the quarterback spot, be able to throw the ball a little bit more and open up the playbook.”

Warcken said his team’s expectations were high heading into the season and they have not changed through the opening few weeks.

The signal-caller has completed 68% of his passes for 449 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception. In the Loboes senior opener, Warcken went 5-for-15 for 98 yards and one touchdown. Warcken said his longest throw of the season was a 50-yard touchdown pass to Brayan Karlgaard against Griggs-Midkota on Aug. 23.
