Two weeks of college football are in the books. The picture is far from complete and there’s still so much we don’t know. But one thing remains a constant: quarterback play matters.
If you watched the top 10 showdown in Ann Arbor, you saw a Michigan team struggle to find competent QB play while Texas’ Quinn Ewers looked like a Heisman candidate. Maybe you watched Cal upset Auburn, where Auburn’s talented receiver core was held back by subpar quarterbacking.
Here, we’re going to power rank every SEC QB. The criteria is simply which QB gives a roster the best chance to win a game given all else is equal. Quarterback play, especially at the college level, can be dependent on coaching, supporting cast, and strength of opponent. I tried to quiet all that noise when putting this ranking together.
I’ve also tried to avoid overreacting to just two weeks of play, so preseaon priors and observations from 2023 remain relevant.
Let’s jump right in and see how each team is positioned at QB with conference play approaching.

Ewers performance at Michigan gave him a strong case to be No. 1, but Georgia’s Carson Beck holds on for now. Beck was among the best QBs in the country last year and remains on that level in 2024.
Beck is a complete QB who can work all areas of the field. He doesn’t have the mobility or speed that some other QBs have, but his quick release makes that a mute point.
