Two perennial playoff powers are set to face off, as Palmetto (Miami) will host Christopher Columbus on Friday night.
The Explorers are the the reigning back-to-back 4M state champions, but are on a two-game skid after losing to St. Thomas Aquinas 42-6, and have already matched their loss total from last year’s 13-2 title campaign. The Panthers fell in the second round of the Class 4M-Region 4 playoffs last year, and are looking to bounce back after falling to Southridge 21-7 last week.
Columbus (1-2) is ranked No. 6 in Class 7A, while Palmetto (1-1) sits just outside the USA Today Top 10 poll.

Palmetto is looking for a defensive rock fight against Columbus, having allowed just 4.4 points per quarter in their last two games. They have the weapons upfront to make that happen, led by four-star defensive lineman Davion Dixon (Notre Dame commit) and EDGE Jerald James (James Madison commit). The offense, led by three-star wide receiver Cameron Sapp (offered by Texas A&M, South Carolina, Nebraska, and others), is looking for a bounce-back performance after being held to one score in a loss to Southridge.

State Ranking: No. 6 in Class 7A
Columbus is looking to right the ship after losing back-to-back games for the first time since 2021. The offense has sputtered to this point of the year, and kicker Alex Fitzgibbons is the leading scorer for the Explorers. Running back Agyeman Addae leads the charge on the ground, and has tallied 186 rushing yards and one touchdown on 47 tries.
