Week 4 Preview | Bedford hosts Penn Cambria in matchup of 3-0 LHAC squads (WITH PICKS)

Both Bedford and Penn Cambria will be looking to be the first 2-0 team in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference West 2 section when the two squads meet in Bedford at 7 p.m. Friday.

Their contest is the only one matching two 3-0 squads from the coverage area.

The Bisons and Panthers each won their section opener in Week 3. Bedford defeated Central Cambria 10-7 on the road, and Penn Cambria beat Forest Hills 30-22 at home.

Penn Cambria, the District 6 Class 3A runners-up from 2021-23, defeated Richland 22-8 and Philipsburg-Osceola 32-13 to begin the season. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 84-43 this year.

Bedford, which has already matched its win total from 2023, topped Westmont Hilltop 28-7 and Penns Valley 35-0 in its first two games. The Bisons have outscored their opponents 74-14 through three weeks.

Penn Cambria has compiled 749 rushing and 307 passing yards through three games. Senior Tom Plunkett leads four rushers with 129 yards or more with 244 and a score. Senior Gavin Harrold has logged 248 receiving, 198 rushing and 114 kickoff return yards for seven total touchdowns, including five on the ground.

Junior Brady Jones is 18 of 36 for 307 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

On defense, senior linebacker and Virginia Military Institute commit Derek Hite leads the team with 30 tackles, averaging 10 per game. Sophomore Corbin Vinglish has 24 tackles. Senior Mason Mento has 21/2 sacks to go with 22 stops.

Harrold has chipped in 19 tackles. The defense has picked off five passes, including two by Plunkett.

Bedford is led by senior quarterback Quincy Swaim’s 383 rushing and 221 passing yards. He is 17 of 34 through the air with two touchdowns and one interception. Swaim is averaging 8.5 yards per carry and has two 100-yard rushing games and four touchdowns on the ground. Senior Owen Horne has 134…
