KANSAS CITY, Kansas — Kansas football lost 23-20 on Friday at home against UNLV, as it tried to bounce back from a loss last week.
Here’s a look at how Kansas (1-2) graded out from its loss against the Rebels (3-0):
Offense: Kansas football’s turnover issue persists
Redshirt junior quarterback Jalon Daniels threw two more interceptions, and both set up scoring drives for UNLV, as overall Kansas’ offense had an up-and-down night. Senior running back Devin Neal led the way on the ground and finished with 120 yards. Daniels, who rushed for two scores himself, threw for 153 yards as the Jayhawks finished with 352 yards of total offense.
Grade: C
Defense: Kansas excels, for the most part
The UNLV touchdown at the end of the first half was unfortunate for Kansas, considering how well the defense had performed to that point, but overall the Jayhawks excelled again on this side of the ball. UNLV had less than 300 total yards. Kansas finished with two sacks and seven tackles for loss.
Grade: B
Special teams: Kansas delivers
Kansas didn’t have much to talk about in the return game Friday, but still acquitted itself well in this area. The Jayhawks didn’t leave any points on the field. Senior kicker Tabor Allen connected on all of his extra points and both field goals.
Grade: A
Coaching: Kansas struggles going into, and after, halftime
For most of the first half, it looked like Kansas would be able to coast to a victory against UNLV. But then came the turnover just ahead of halftime, and the Jayhawks’ struggles after it. Kansas couldn’t recover the momentum enough and suffered a second-straight disappointing defeat.
