Shelby Whippets owned line of scrimmage in MOAC football win over Marion Harding

SHELBY — The Shelby Whippets offensive line answered the challenge.

During a 33-14 win over Marion Harding on Friday night, the Whippets piled up 284 yards rushing and saw two players run for more than 125 yards as Shelby kicked off its Mid-Ohio Athletic title defense in fashion. The Whippets piled up 392 yards of total offense on their way to victory.

We have run the ball maybe more than what people thought we would this season, but it is because of how good our guys up front have been. We knew it was a strength coming back and we have relied on those kids and they have stuck together as a unit.”

“Brayden and Marcus have been running hard and they trust the guys up front,” Mahaney said. “Moving forward, if we can continue to establish the run, it will be really good for us. But, we have plenty of things to clean up. I thought we played sloppy at times offensively. We will clean that up moving forward.”

DeVito scored on runs of 1 and 17 yards and connected with sophomore wide receiver Brady Bowman for a 47-yard TD.

The Shelby defense was stout yet again allowing just 36 rushing yards for the game. Harding had 303 yards of total offense but 99 of those came on the Presidents’ final drive against the Shelby junior varsity squad.

Senior quarterback Conner Pennington had a nice day throwing the football for Harding completing 19-of-33 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns of 49…
