Notre Dame football among teams that should rise in AP Top 25, coaches poll | C.L. Brown

Week 3 in college football proved to be a “get right” weekend for several teams that seemed to be vulnerable. Alabama, Oregon and Notre Dame all rolled to big wins after looking less than stellar last week.

The Crimson Tide destroyed Wisconsin, 42-10, on the road. It was an impressive showing just in time for their week off before taking on Georgia in Tuscaloosa. The Bulldogs might be the ones drawing questions now, after being pushed to the edge of defeat by Kentucky on Saturday.

The Ducks dismantled rival Oregon State, 49-14, and the Irish bounced back after being upset by Northern Illinois last week with a 66-7 smackdown of Purdue.

Here’s what to look out for when the US LBM Coaches Poll and The Associated Press Top 25 Poll are tallied and released Sunday.

Teams that should be ranked

Washington State is holding it down for the Pac-12 minus 10 plus four. The Cougars shocked rival Washington, 24-19, to win their annual battle for the Apple Cup in Seattle.

Tack on a 37-16 win over Texas Tech and they have something many ranked teams can’t match — two wins over Power Four conference teams.

UNLV also should appear in both polls having already posted its second road win of the season, 23-20 at Kansas.

Runnin Rebels quarterback Matthew Sluka is showing there are jewels to be discovered in the transfer portal outside of major conferences. Sluka, who spent four seasons at Holy Cross, leads UNLV in rushing.

Team that should drop

LSU (17 Coaches/16 AP) escaped Columbia, South Carolina, with a win over South Carolina in spite of itself. The Tigers got outplayed the majority of a game filled with miscues in every phase.

LSU had a punt blocked, and a mishandled snap led to a botched extra point. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw a pick six that might have sealed the win for the Gamecocks, but, fortunately for the Tigers, it was…
