West Texas A&M falls to No. 15 Western Colorado 26-17 in home opener

CANYON —The West Texas A&M Buffaloes battled in their home opener but couldn’t overcome a tough Western Colorado team, falling 26-17 to the 15th-ranked Mountaineers on Saturday evening.

This defeat, marking their second consecutive loss, leaves WT with a 1-2 record on the season. Despite the fervent support of 6,219 fans at Buffalo Stadium, the game proved to be a challenging one for the home team.

As the first quarter progressed, the Buffaloes showed signs of recovery. Quarterback Sean Johnson orchestrated a drive featuring an 18-yard scramble and a deep pass to Zorian Stanton, placing the ball inside the Mountaineers’ 10-yard line. On the first play of the second quarter, Johnson scored on a short run, leveling the game at 7-7. The crowd’s excitement surged, as it seemed WT was finding their rhythm.
