Overreactions to Colorado football’s game vs CSU, including Deion Sanders’ hires

Saturday night was personal for Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team.

Disrespect from rival Colorado State leading up to the 2024 Rocky Mountain Showdown gave the Buffaloes added motivation, resulting in a 28-9 win over the Rams. It was a decisive victory that Sanders and his team have been searching for.

Here are a few overreactions (or not) from Colorado’s biggest win of the 2024 college football season so far:

Colorado defensive coordinator Robert Livingston was a home-run hire

Not an overreaction. Saturday night was the first time that the Colorado defense has allowed fewer than 10 points under Deion Sanders. New defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is a first-time play caller, but he’s quickly proving to be an excellent addition to the Buffs’ coaching staff. Colorado has allowed just nine points over the last six quarters of football (dating back to the second half of Week 2) and over the last two games, the Buffs have held opponents to 7-for-27 (26%) on 3rd down. Oh, and they’ve done it without two starters (safety Shilo Sanders and defensive lineman Chidozie Nwankwo). It’s still early, but Livingston looks like one of Sanders’ best hires.

Colorado’s offensive line is fixed after lineup changes

Overreaction. Much-needed tweaks were made to the Colorado offensive line after two weeks, and they worked on Saturday night. FIU transfer Phillip Houston got his first start for the Buffs at right tackle, pushing Tyler Brown to left guard (previously at right tackle) and UTEP transfer Justin Mayers to the bench.
