The Tennessee football running back has it from the time he arrives at the practice facility until the moment he leaves. It’s that level of attention that is helping the Vols running back excel as a redshirt freshman.
“He constantly is taking notes throughout whatever meetings he is in,” Vols running backs coach De’Rail Sims said.
Opponents are now taking note of Bishop, who leads the SEC in yards per carry as the No. 7 Vols (3-0) open conference play against No. 13 Oklahoma (3-0) on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC) in Norman, Oklahoma.

Bishop is one of the best high school running backs in Tennessee history.
Now, the Karns High School product is part of Tennessee’s electric running back room. The way he is playing is not a surprise to Sims because of the preparation element of Bishop’s skill set. He turns preparation to attacking practice to raising confidence.
“Seeing the confidence in him in terms of growing every single day, you can tell it by the way he answers questions,” Sims said. “The confidence factor in him has just grown tremendously.”
Bishop leads the SEC with 10.1 yards per carry and is the only SEC player with multiple rushes of 40-plus yards this season. He has 222 rushing yards on 22 attempts in three games. He has three touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Bishop rushed for 120 yards on seven attempts against Kent State. He had touchdown runs of 47 yards and 53 yards.
Bishop missed the 2023 season due to a preseason ankle injury.
