Mississippi State football lands 4-star LB Tyler Lockhart in 2025 recruiting class

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football has a new top commitment in its 2025 recruiting class.

Tyler Lockhart, a four-star linebacker from Winona, committed to the Bulldogs and coach Jeff Lebby on Thursday morning. He overtakes quarterback KaMario Taylor as the top pledge in the class with a 0.9433 grade by the 247Sports Composite.

Lockhart, a Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection, picked MSU over offers from Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Baylor, Ole Miss, LSU and many more schools. Lockhart’s older brother, TJ, is a freshman offensive lineman at Mississippi State.

East Mississippi Community College safety Tony Mitchell also committed to the Bulldogs late Wednesday night, though he has zero stars. Lockhart is the second four-star commitment this week, joining 2026 running back Damarius Yates.

Tyler Lockhart 247 ranking

Lockhart, listed at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, is a four-star according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s tabbed at No. 125 nationally, No. 16 at linebacker and No. 4 in Mississippi.

He’s the fourth linebacker commitment of the class.
