Josh Heupel record: What is Tennessee coach’s road record with Vols?

Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel has a tough road test against No. 13 Oklahoma, his alma mater, on Saturday.

Heupel, who won the 2000 National Championship as the Sooners’ quarterback, has turned around the Vols in his four seasons at the helm, stabilizing a program that finished 3-7 under Jeremy Pruitt in 2020. He has also had moderate success in road games since moving to Knoxville.

The former UCF coach is the center of many storylines surrounding Saturday’s ESPN “College GameDay” matchup, as Heupel was the co-offensive coordinator and play caller at Oklahoma in 2014 but was fired at the conclusion of the season. Saturday’s game marks the first time he’ll occupy the opposing sideline in his coaching career.

Heupel has a 30-12 record in four seasons at Tennessee heading into the fourth game of his fourth season with the Vols. His best season came in 2022, when Tennessee finished 11-2 with an Orange Bowl win and a regular season win over Alabama.
