Vanderbilt football has its quarterback in the 2026 class.
Michael Mitchell Jr., a 3-star from Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, announced his commitment to Clark Lea and the Commodores on Saturday via social media.
Currently ranked the No. 32 quarterback nationwide in the 247Sports Composite, Mitchell had other SEC offers from Arkansas and Ole Miss, as well as Arizona State, Cal, Oregon State and Washington State.
The main concern with Mitchell is that he is very undersized for the position at 5-11, 175 pounds. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck hasn’t been afraid of quarterbacks with a non-traditional skillset, however, with his option-based system requiring mobile quarterbacks who are good decision-makers.
Mitchell is the first high school commitment for Vanderbilt in the Class of 2026. The Commodores were the 13th SEC team to pick up a 2026 commit; three schools − Kentucky, Ole Miss and Missouri − still have no commits in the class.
