College football rankings: Big Ten teams in updated Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 after Week 4

Week 4 of the college football season featured Big Ten programs Michigan and Ohio State earning big wins.

The No. 17 Wolverines fended off No. 12 USC — making its Big Ten debut against the defending College Football Playoff national champions — with a 27-24 comeback win at home in which quarterback Alex Orji made his first start. Elsewhere, the No. 3-ranked Buckeyes overcame a surprisingly competitive Marshall team to dominate the Thundering Herd 49-14.

Undefeated (and unranked) Illinois also earned an overtime win over No. 22 Nebraska on Friday night, and should find itself in the top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll for the first time this season. Elsewhere, Indiana’s Curt Cignetti became the first coach in program history to start his career 4-0 for the Hoosiers.

It wasn’t all great for the Big Ten, however: Michigan State dropped its first game of the season with a 23-19 defeat in which Aidan Chiles threw three interceptions. Purdue traveled on the road and lost to 38-21 to Pac-12 holdover Oregon State, while UCLA dropped its second game of the season to SEC foe LSU.

Here’s how those games and more reflect in the updated top 25 polls after Week 4 of the college football season:
