CORVALLIS, Ore. — Purdue football played at Oregon State without two of its three projected starting receivers, and doesn’t know when it will have them back.
Boilermakers coach Ryan Walters said Jahmal Edrine is expected to miss three or four weeks with an unspecified injury. Edrine was unavailable for Saturday’s 38-21 loss.
Walters also said he does not know how quickly CJ Smith will return. The transfer from Georgia has yet to play through three games.
Without either player, Purdue’s offense managed merely 7 of 17 passing for 56 yards.
Edrine had totaled 77 yards on five receptions through two games. Based on usage in the season opener against Indiana State, it appeared he would be quarterback Hudson Card’s top target among wideouts.
Edrine missed all of last season with a torn ACL.
