Kansas State football kicks off Big 12 play on the road Saturday with a late-night start against Brigham Young at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.
This will be the first-ever conference matchup between No. 14-ranked K-State and BYU, which joined the league last year. The all-time series is tied at 4-4, with the Wildcats falling 19-14 in the most recent meeting in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1, 1997.
Both teams completed their nonconference schedules at 3-0, with K-State knocking off Tennessee-Martin (41-6), Tulane on the road (34-27) and Arizona at home last week (31-7). BYU blew out Southern Illinois at home (41-13) and then beat both SMU (18-15) and Wyoming (34-14) on the road.
K-State’s offense has heavily on the running game, averaging 244 yards and 7.0 yards per carry. DJ Giddens leads the way with 324 yards, while quarterback Avery Johnson ran for a career-high 110 yards against Arizona, and Dylan Edwards has averaged 9.2 yards on just 15 attempts.
For Arizona, which has been hard hit by injuries at the running back position, quarterback Jake Retzlaff leads the team in both passing with 841 yards and seven touchdowns, and in rushing with 113 yards. Receiver Chase Roberts has a team-best 15 catches for 263 yards.
