Remember the 2023 Purdue football season?
So many competitive games the Boilermakers found ways to lose.
Saturday night in Corvallis, Oregon looked pretty reminiscent of so many games for a season ago.
Costly turnovers. Third- and fourth-down struggles. Timely miscues.
They all were factors in Purdue’s 38-21 loss to Oregon State at Reser Stadium.
Purdue football’s offensive woes costly against Oregon State
The Boilermakers couldn’t have asked for a better start. Oregon State gambled on fourth-and-1 inside its own 30 on the fourth play from scrimmage. Purdue’s defense got the stop and set up a short field.

Four plays later, Devin Mockobee fumbled inside the 10 and the Beavers recovered. Purdue’s second drive started with a swing pass that was deflected, bounced off Reggie Love’s leg and right into the waiting arms of Zakaih Saez, who had an easy pick six.
In the first half, Purdue had two drives stall in the red zone, accounting for zero points.
Max Klare’s 32-yard touchdown catch was the lone memorable first half offensive highlight.
The Boilermakers were without their best receiver, Jahmal Edrine, but that’s not an excuse for another lackluster performance against a team that had equatable talent.

Purdue defense shows significant progress
After what transpired seven days earlier versus Notre Dame, the Boilermakers had nowhere to go but up.
That said, the defense resembled nothing of the one that had 30 missed tackles a week earlier. There were still too many chunk plays and the Boilers…
