Penn State football is preparing for its biggest proving point yet − with its most scintillating Beaver Stadium environment − of this young 2024 season.
The Nittany Lions’ Big Ten competition begins with fireworks Saturday night.
Which means it will be the most expensive home ticket yet.
The undefeated Lions (3-0) and Illinois Fighting Illinois − both ranked teams − will battle under the lights (7:30 p.m., NBC) for early top-of-conference positioning. Penn State is No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Poll; Illinois (4-0) is No. 21.
Penn State’s ever-growing offense, led by resplendent quarterback Drew Allar, looks to continue its big-play ways against its most formidable challenge yet. The Illini feature wins over previously-ranked Kansas and Nebraska, most recently holding the Cornhuskers to 50 rushing yards and sacking phenom QB Dylan Raiola five times.
The Lions’ supposed top-shelf defense also should be stressed, as well. Illini formally mistaken-prone QB Luke Altmeyer has now thrown 10 touchdowns without an interception and 250-pound tailback Kaden Feagin has proven difficult to corral.
