Texas A&M (3-1, 1-0 SEC) defeated Bowling Green 26-20 in front of nearly 100,000 Aggie fans inside Kyle Field on Saturday night. The score was too close for comfort against a team from the MAC, but a win is a win at the end of the day. This week, head coach Mike Elko and his squad will prepare to face a tough Arkansas Razorbacks team that is also 3-1 and 1-0 in SEC play.

After starting his second consecutive game, redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed had a similar outing to his first start. He threw 173 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 91 yards, averaging 7.6 yards per rush. While the score was close, Bowling Green’s two touchdowns came off a broken coverage 65-yard pass to tight end Harold Fannin Jr., while Falcons running back Rahkeem Smith ran for a 40-yard touchdown on a trick play.

Defensively, the Aggies held the Falcons’ rushing game to 85 yards, the second straight game they have held opponents under 100 yards on the ground. While Aggie fans may have lost some confidence in the team, Reed’s progress will continue, and the defense will look to clean things up ahead of facing the Razorbacks.

Mike Elko spoke to the local media on Monday before Saturday’s game. Here’s what he said.

Mike Elko on the team’s performance against Bowling Green

“We were very choppy. … If you look at it from a big picture standpoint, it was choppy in a lot of areas, so there’s room to get better.”
