Georgia football safety Malaki Starks nodded and a smile crept across his face when he was asked about quarterback Jalen Milroe’s comments after Alabama’s 27-24 SEC championship win last December.
Minutes earlier, Georgia offensive guard Dylan Fairchild said the Bulldogs were aware of Milroe’s assessment that the Bulldogs “didn’t want anymore” that day.
It’s apparently added some fuel to the fire this week ahead of the top 5 matchup Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
“Yeah, we’re aware for sure,” Fairchild said.
Milroe on the McElory and Cubelic show on Dec. 7 said the following: “I’m big on body language and looking in an opponents’ eyes. They looked defeated and didn’t want anymore. And I knew that our team knew it was going to be a 60-minute game, and Georgia didn’t believe in that.”
How did Fairchild react when he heard those comments?
“Put my head down and grind,” Fairchild said. “That’s the attitude of our team, put our head down and grind.”
Starks summed up Milroe’s comments this way: “It is what it is. I think that’s the kind of defense we’ve got, we’re a very competitive defense. We’re very strong, physical and fast and that’s how we play the game of football. You come to Georgia to play defense. That’s what it is. They have a great offense. We got back to work for sure.”
Starks said Georgia doesn’t “harp on” Miroe’s comments.
Starks was asked if he disagreed with Milroe’s take on Georgia’s defense that day.
“I don’t try to pay too much attention to it,” Starks said. “I never think that’s something that goes with the ‘G’ and being defeated. I don’t think that at all. It is what it is. We just want to go be the best defense we can be.”
