With less than 48 hours to go before its game against Mississippi State, Texas has added edge rusher Barryn Sorrell to its SEC-mandated availability report.
The reason for Sorrell’s appearance on the availability report was not disclosed. Sorrell is still listed as “probable” for the Longhorns’ SEC opener. A senior, Sorrell has started four times this season and contributed eight tackles and five quarterback hurries.
Safety Jelani McDonald and running back Quintrevion Wisner joined Sorrell among the Longhorns’ “probable” players on Thursday night . Both players had “questionable” designations on Wednesday.
Quinn Ewers is still listed as “questionable” on the availability report as the UT quarterback works his way back from a strained oblique. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters earlier in the day that the decision about if Ewers will play against Mississippi State will be made on Friday.
On Thursday, the Texas availability report also included defensive back Derek Williams Jr. (out), deep snapper Tate Haver (doubtful) and receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. (questionable). Running backs CJ Baxter, Christian Clark, Velton Gardner and Colin Page have all been ruled out.
The SEC will release another availability report on UT’s behalf on Friday night. A final update will be issued 90 minutes ahead of Saturday afternoon’s kickoff.
