What hurricane? River Valley manages itself and the elements against Marion Harding

CALEDONIA — Despite the remnants of Hurricane Helene dumping much needed rain, River Valley did what River Valley does.

“Like I told you at Buckeye Valley. Rain, sleet or snow, we’re going to throw,” RV senior quarterback Chase Ebert said, referencing this year’s other off-night with the weather. “No matter what we do that was our game plan, and we stuck to it and came out on top.”

Indeed, the Vikings did prevail on the soggy home field, beating Marion Harding 10-0 Friday night in a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference football game, but they did so with a twist to their spread offense.

Ebert threw it 29 times and completed 13 for 171 yards. But once the Vikings went up 7-0, with 4:17 left in the first half, the approach shifted.

Except for a 50-yard completion from Ebert to Eli Snyder, neither team could gain traction on the soggy field in the first quarter. However, the Vikings finally put together 13 straight plays and went 80 yards in 4:15 to score on an Ebert-to-Snyder 10-yard pass.

Ahead 7-0, River Valley (4-2, 2-1) slowed the tempo, managed field position and tried its best to run the clock, leaning on its defense to produce its second shutout of the season.

“We went up 7-0 and I have so much trust in my defense with Tyson (Waddle) and…
