We all knew that the winner of the Week 5 showdown between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs would hold all of the power in the race for the SEC. Fortunately, the Crimson Tide prevailed 41-34 Saturday night and now look to be in the driver’s seat of the Playoff race too.
With five teams ranked inside of the top ten, it’s not crazy to think that the SEC will get either four or five teams into the expanded 12-team format. As things currently stand, Andy Staples of On3 Sports projects Alabama to earn the No. 1 seed, Texas the No. 5, Tennessee the No. 6 and Georgia the No. 7.
As the No. 1 overall seed, the Tide would receive the benefit of a first-round bye before taking on the winner between No. 8 Oregon and No. 9 Penn State. The Longhorns are projected to have a very interesting path as the No. 5 seed with a first-round home game against G5 champion UNLV before facing the Big 12 Champion BYU Cougars in the quarterfinals.
The month of October is set to feature a number of marquee matchups including Alabama vs. Tennessee, Ohio State vs. Oregon, Georgia vs. Texas, and much more! So buckle up, the chaos is just getting started.
