Ada impressive in Homecoming win over McLain

Oct. 1—The Ada High football team scored six touchdowns and forced six turnovers in a convincing 41-12 win over Tulsa McLain on Homecoming night at Norris Field last Friday.

Ada evened its record to 2-2 on the year and is off to a 1-0 start in District 4A-4 play. McLain fell to 2-2 and 0-1. The Cougars are scheduled to host Poteau in a big district showdown this week back inside Koi Ishto Stadium.

“We’ve been talking about each week being 1-0 and we’re going to enjoy this win tonight and tomorrow and then Sunday we’ll get ready to work on Poteau and try to go 1-0 next week,” Ada head coach Wade Boyles told The Ada News.

The Ada coaching staff had preached to the Cougars all week about getting a run game going. Ada had rushed for a combined 53 total yards on 35 attempts in back-to-back losses to Ardmore and McAlester. The Cougars piled up 112 yards on 37 tries in the win over the Titans.

“I think our guys up front accepted the challenge that we’ve been kind of pushing at them to help us establish a run game. I was really proud of coach (Robbie) Powell and coach (Justin) Nail for getting those guys ready to accept that challenge,” Boyles said.

Of course, Boyles was also pleased with Ada forcing six turnovers.

“One of the big focuses for us since early in the season was that we wanted to create turnovers and takeaways. That’s just been a big emphasis for us. We’ve been challenging kids to be a playmaker for us and we had several guys step up tonight,” he said.

Ada juniors Kyler Gaddis and Owen Wofford both made big impacts. Gaddis came up with two fumble recoveries and Wofford nabbed a pair of athletic interceptions. Both players were also involved in several other nice plays on defense.
