Texas A&M vs. Missouri has new bragging rights at stake: Between Marcel Reed, his sister

When the Missouri Tigers head south to take on the Texas A&M football team Saturday, it will be more than just an SEC showdown between two top-25 programs for the Reed family.

For Aggies’ quarterback Marcel Reed and his sister, Briah, the Week 6 matchup will be a chance at bragging rights.

Reed could make his fourth career start, with starter Conner Weigman listed as questionable for the fourth week in a row. Briah, his older sibling, is the Tigers’ assistant director of on-campus recruiting. The Reeds are a football family through and through: Reed’s father, Rod, spent more than a decade as the head coach at Tennessee State.

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz was taking no chances as he barred the older Reed from practice, citing a “conflict of interest,” he told reporters during Wednesday’s teleconference.

Outside of the first five periods of practice, Briah was not allowed to join Missouri in their preparation for the Aggies.

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko heard about the stipulations placed on Briah.

“I was hoping maybe she would get out to practice and find some secrets for it,” Elko joked. “No, I’m kidding, of course.”

While A&M hasn’t officially announced who will start vs. Missouri, Drinkwitz was clear about who he and his team are preparing to face this week.

“I know on their depth chart it says (Weigman) is the starting quarterback, but that’s just semantics, in my opinion,” Drinkwitz said. “(Reed) is 3-0 as a starter, and whether (Weigman) is listed questionable or whatever, I don’t see them going back.”

Reed has racked up 585 passing yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions this season. He’s also rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns on 42 carries.
