Texas A&M vs. Missouri: Looking at Aggies’ last 10 matchups against ranked opponents

No. 21 Texas A&M football and No. 9 Missouri will take center stage in the lone Week 6 college football matchup between ranked teams.

A&M head coach Mike Elko indicated in talks with reporters Monday and Wednesday that he is well-aware of the nationally televised game’s significance.

“We take the approach that it’s about us, and the focus is on us. We’re certainly aware of the magnitude of the game when you get a stage like this. … We put the focus internally on us playing our best brand of football,” Elko said Wednesday in his weekly SEC teleconference.

Saturday will be the Aggies’ second matchup against a ranked opponent in 2024. they lost at home against Notre Dame in Week 1 in their first matchup, 23-13. Boston College was ranked in Associated Press Top 25 when Missouri beat the Eagles on Sept. 14, but they weren’t ranked in the coaches poll.

Like most teams, A&M’s recent history against ranked opponents is rocky, and they will look to turn the tide against the Tigers.

Missouri Tigers wide receiver Tauskie Dove (86) is tackled by Texas A&M Aggies defensive back Tyreek Chappell (7) during the first half Oct. 16, 2021 at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.

Aggies looking to buck a ranked-opponent trend

Since 2022, A&M has a record of 2-8 in its last 10 matchups against ranked opponents and hasn’t won one since Week 12 of 2022 against LSU.

The current Aggies have done a lot of winning the past month, taking four straight and winning two conference games in the process.

Saturday is only one game, but it’s the latest chance to prove that Elko’s team is different from the Aggies teams that came before it.
