Today is Oct. 4, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, the Longhorns rushed for more than 500 yards during a home game against Navy.

As it improved to 3-0 during the 1969 season, Texas rushed 83 times for 523 yards in a 56-17 over Navy. No Longhorn rushed for 100 yards in the 39 point rout, but Jim Bertelsen, Eddie Phillips, Paul Robichau and Bobby Callison all top 70 yards on the ground. Bertelsen, Phillips, Terry Collins, Tommy Asaff, Ted Koy and James Street combined for eight rushing touchdowns.

Of the top-five rushing performances in the Texas record books, three were recorded during that 1969 season. That 523-yard effort against Navy still ranks fourth.

Texas went 11-0 and won a national championship during the 1969 season.
