EVANSTON, Ill. — Big Ten play-by-play voice Chris Vosters perfectly summed up Ke’Shawn Williams’ 52-yard gain in the third quarter of Indiana football’s 41-24 win over Northwestern.
“How is he still going?” Vosters exclaimed.
Williams caught the ball behind the line of scrimmage on a crossing route and managed to go 50-plus yards through rush hour traffic.
He high-stepped over a diving would-be tackler, busted out multiple spin moves and got a few extra yards at the end of the run by simply carrying a defender on his back — he forced four missed tackles in all — during the inevitable play of the year candidate.
“I was just watching him make all the tough moves,” Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke said. “It was awesome.”

There’s no exact science for making guys miss — all Williams could do was offer a shrug when asked how the play unfolded.
“I just blackout and run,” Williams said, with a smile. “I just got to try to do whatever I can to make the most out of every opportunity I get.”
It’s all the more impressive since Williams doesn’t get many opportunities to make moves like that in practice. The only time the Hoosiers went live in the offseason was during the spring game, but Williams said he’s had a spin move in his “arsenal” since his days at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia.
“I guess it just keeps coming out,” Williams said.
Rourke didn’t need to see a replay of it to know it was special moment. He had a good enough view from the pocket of the carnage Williams left in his wake.
