Iowa State football team stays undefeated and improves to 5-0 with win over Baylor

AMES – The Iowa State football team’s strong start to the season has reached another level of historic proportions.

No. 16 Iowa State stayed undefeated and added another big victory to its memorable start to the campaign by beating Big 12 Conference foe Baylor 43-21 at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday night.

Quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns for the Cyclones, who overcame an ugly start and a second-half deficit to pick up their latest win.

Running back Jaylon Jackson added 107 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Iowa State finally reached the end zone in the second quarter when Becht fired a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ben Brahmer to pull the Cyclones to within 14-12 of Baylor.

Baylor’s lead wouldn’t last through the half.

Iowa State took advantage of a big Baylor miscue when Bears punter Palmer Williams bobbled the snap and had his kick blocked by Myles Mendeszoon. Iowa State’s Caden Matson picked it up and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Iowa State missed a chance to pad its lead late in the second quarter when Becht was picked off deep in Baylor’s territory.

Baylor opened the second half with an impressive drive. The Bears converted on fourth-and-3 from the Iowa State 25-yard line when quarterback Sawyer Robertson eluded defenders and fired a…
