SOUTH BRUNSWICK – The Warriors swarm all over. They dart in, dash to the outside, wrap up and push back. Big play after big play. Energy all-around. If you’re a fan of defense, Watchung Hills is must-see TV.
Saturday, Watchung Hills pitched its third straight shutout with a 33-0 win over South Brunswick in a Big Central Conference division crossover game. The Warriors have allowed 27 points all season and the defense has actually given up 20 points. (Moorestown scored on a kickoff return.)
The unit, along with an efficient offense led by quarterback Mason Kelly, running back Lucas Garcia and receiver Brayden Kelly, have boosted Watchung Hills (5-1) to four consecutive wins after a 13-10 loss to undefeated Woodbridge.
Things are clicking down the stretch both in the playoff and the BCC Liberty Silver race.
So, just what is it that makes the defense so good?

“I feel like our physicality,” cornerback Brayden Kelly said. “Our mindset. We don’t worry about who we’re going against. We’re never the bigger team and that’s kind of been our mentality. We haven’t given up the big play – something we cut down since last year. We just have fun. I mean, that’s a big thing having a good time with your friends who work hard during the week and it shows on Friday and Saturday afternoons.”
Kelly, who is cousins with Mason and his older brothers Dylan and Shane were both stars for the Warriors, said they put in the time to watch film and have friendly banter to push each other at practice.
