Tyler Booker knew he was being looked at after Alabama football’s loss Saturday to Vanderbilt. How he reacted, he said, was how the team was going to react, losing 40-35 to a Commodores team the Crimson Tide hasn’t lost to since 1984.
“If I put my head down, everybody else is going to put their head down,” Booker said.
Booker had the chance to set the narrative for Alabama’s upcoming home game against South Carolina, to upcoming road meetings with Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma, and to whatever postseason future the Crimson Tide holds.
Booker’s message? One that continues to revolve around the goals set in the preseason. Nothing has changed.
“The message in the locker room is just to stick together and to keep playing football,” Booker said. “There’s a whole lot of football left. There’s a whole lot of football left for this football team. So we just have to make sure that we keep staying together and keep playing together.”
Nothing is decided in the SEC.
As Alabama finished its five-point loss to Vanderbilt, rival Tennessee began what ended up being an upset loss to Arkansas in Fayetteville. Before Alabama kicked off, Texas A&M rolled through top-10 Missouri.
In the SEC, one program remains undefeated overall: Texas, which has meetings with Oklahoma, Georgia and Texas A&M ahead in the regular season.
Overall, with the introduction of the 12-team College Football Playoff, undefeated teams such as Texas, Ohio State and Oregon remain near the top, but the US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25 is already littered with one-loss teams still in contention.
