Deion Burks injury update: OU receiver not expected to play vs. Texas, per report

NORMAN — OU football was hoping to return a key receiver from injury against Texas.

But after a bye week it appears Deion Burks isn’t quite ready as he’s not expected to play against the Longhorns Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Thursday. Burks missed the Sooners’ road win over Auburn after suffering a soft tissue injury vs. Tennessee.

The Purdue transfer has caught 26 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns in four games this season and was listed as questionable to play vs. Texas on Wednesday night’s injury report.

The Sooners will once again be without five of their best receivers on Saturday.

OU true freshman running back Taylor Tatum was not listed on the report, meaning he will be available to play against the Longhorns. Tatum showed signs early he could be a consistent contributor but also missed the game against the Tigers after exiting the Tennessee game with an injury.

The SEC’s next student athlete availability report will be released on Thursday night.
