Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel watching 2025 commit George MacIntyre at BA-Catholic game

Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel will get an up-close look at a future Vol quarterback Thursday at Knoxville Catholic.

Heupel is at the Division II-AAA East Region game between Catholic and Brentwood Academy, where he’ll get a chance to see 2025 Tennessee football commit George MacIntyre, a four-star quarterback who will be a January enrollee at UT.

MacIntyre committed to Tennessee in January. MacIntyre has completed 106-of-165 passes for 1,392 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Brentwood Academy enters the game 4-3, 0-2 in league play. Catholic is 3-3, 0-1. The Irish have lost three straight.

MacIntyre is a 6-foot-5½, 190-pound quarterback and three-year starter at Brentwood Academy, where his dad Matt MacIntyre and uncle Mike MacIntyre played. George MacIntyre is named after his grandfather, who was a former college coach and coached at Vanderbilt.

This is MacIntyre’s first football game played in Knoxville.

“Somebody asked him, you know, what he’s thinking and everything (with) alot of hoopla about Coach (Heupel),” Brentwood Academy football coach Paul Wade said. “Heupel will spare tonight to see him. And so, that’s exciting. But George is so even keel, you wouldn’t even know that he was at the level that he is.”

Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel, right, talks to Brentwood Academy coach Paul Wade, center, prior to the Eagles’ game at Knoxville Catholic.

Brentwood Academy is in its first year with Wade as coach. Philip Shadowens is in his first season as Catholic’s coach after being co-coach with Steve Matthews in 2023.
