Oak Harbor has one of most productive backs in state in Carson Ridener

Oak Harbor football won its first 12 games last season.

Every year is a different team in high school and the Rockets have something they didn’t have at this time last year: running back Carson Ridener. The senior, who missed a few games last season with a knee injury, rushed for three touchdowns Friday as the Rockets topped visiting Genoa, 38-7, in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

Unbeaten Oak Harbor led 17-0 at the half and scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. Tyler Thompson caught a 66-yard touchdown from Mike LaLonde, Ridener ran in from the 2 and LaLonde added a 19-yard scoring run for a 38-0 advantage.

“Our offensive line came out and took control of the game,” Rockets coach Mike May said. “The offensive and defensive line, we got pressure. We always emphasize starting fast. We’re balanced. We want to establish the run, and we made some big plays with the pass.

“Our offensive line gets better and better.”

Ridener is among the leaders in the state with 23 rushing touchdowns and 26 overall in eight games.

Ridener rushed for two scores in the second quarter after Fulton Krupp kicked a field goal from 42 yards. He connected from 48 last week.

“We have a lot of senior leadership,” May said. “We have a lot of confidence because of the athletes we have.”
