Voting is officially closed on The Enquirer’s Week 6 local college football players of the week, and a pair of winners have been selected.
Jaheim Thomas, a Princeton grad who is now a linebacker at Wisconsin is this week’s winner in the Division I category after getting 58% of the vote. Thomas, a redshirt senior, recorded six tackles and a sack on Saturday as the Badgers beat Purdue 52-6. He was a four-star recruit coming out of Princeton high school and finished his senior season with 73 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.
Jaheim Thomas (24) started his career out of Princeton High School at the University of Cincinnati, later transferring to Arkansas and most recently Wisconsin. Here he’s shown tackling Colerain’s Ivan Pace Jr., who is now a linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings.
East Central grad Eli Aston, a receiver for Mount St. Joseph, won 44% of the vote in the small school division this week to take home the honor. Aston had the best game of his collegiate career last Saturday, catching 10 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns in Mount St. Joseph’s 49-41 win over Hanover.
Eli Aston has 30 receptions for 640 yards and seven touchdowns in five games with Mount St. Joseph this season.
Last week, Fairfield grad Jaydan Mayes, a cornerback at Army, and Withrow graduate Ty’aris Stevenson, a running back for Ashland, won. The previous week’s winners were Josh Fussell, a Lakota West graduate now playing defensive back at Northwestern, and Kai Smith, who graduated from Shroder and is now a running back at Wilmington College.
