Kansas State football climbs in coaches poll, AP Top 25 after win at Colorado

Kansas State football was one of just three Big 12 teams to make the cut in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, moving up two spots to No. 17.

The Wildcats needed a come-from-behind 31-28 victory at Colorado late Saturday night to make it happen as they improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 with their second straight victory and first on the road in the conference.

With No. 17 Utah dropping out, unbeaten Iowa State (6-0, 3-0) at No. 12 and Brigham Young (6-0, 3-0) at No.. 13 are the standard-bearers for the Big 12. Texas Tech (5-1, 3-0), the only other team without a conference loss, remains unranked after a bye week.

K-State has been ranked all season but dropped to No. 25 after dropping its Big 12 opener at BYU, only to bounce back by knocking off Oklahoma State at home two weeks ago and then escaping against Colorado by scoring the winning touchdown with 2 minutes, 14 seconds left.

The Wildcats also are No. 17 in the new Associated Press media poll, moving up one spot from a week ago.

K-State is back on the road this Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. game at West Virginia. The Mountaineers (3-3, 2-1) suffered their first league loss at home against Iowa State.
