Texas A&M football: 5 things for Aggies fans to know about Mississippi State

The Texas A&M football team should be rested and rejuvenated as it continues SEC play Saturday against Mississippi State.

With a big-time win over Missouri in Week 6 to lift them to 5-1, the Aggies head to Starkville to take on the Bulldogs after an idle week. Mississippi State played an unexpectedly close game in Week 7 against No. 4 Georgia, losing 41-31.

It is the fourth SEC clash for A&M, which is among just three SEC teams without a conference loss. The Week 8 Aggies vs. Bulldogs matchup will kick off at 3:15 p.m. at Davis Wade Stadium and will be televised on the SEC Network and streamed on Fubo.

The Aggies are ranked No. 14 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, while Mississippi State (1-5, 0-3) is struggling this season. The Bulldogs’ 10-point loss to UGA was actually the closest contest they’ve played since Sept. 7, amid a five-game losing streak.

Here are five things to know about Mississippi State:

1. Bulldogs are 81st in scoring offense

Mississippi State has had a tough start to 2024, and it’s easy to see why. Heading into Week 7, the Bulldogs are ranked 13th out of 16 SEC teams, averaging 28 points.

Much of that production is aided by a 56-point performance in Week 1 against Eastern Kentucky, their only win of the season. Since then, they have topped 20 points three times and own a 41-17 loss against Toledo in Week 3.

Mississippi State put up a good fight against top-five Georgia on Saturday, but a Sept. 14 uncompetitive loss to Toledo is a blemish on the Bulldogs’ record.

2. They are 110th in scoring defense
