Vote for the Savannah Morning News Football Player of the Week in an open poll

Week 9 of the high school football season in Georgia brought a sense of normalcy back with a full slate of games after Hurricanes Helene and Milton threw the year off kilter with numerous postponements and cancellations.

In the Greater Savannah area, there were a number of notable individual performances. Savannah Christian senior running back Zo Smalls ran for 138 yards and scored three more rushing touchdowns to give him 70 for his career, a record for players from the Greater Savannah area, according the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

This is a chance for readers to weigh in and select the Savannah Morning News Football Player of the Week in an open poll, with no restrictions on the voting. The poll will close at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.

Here are this week’s candidates.

Zo Smalls, Savannah Christian

The senior ran for 138 yards on 17 carries and had three rushing touchdowns ― giving him 70 for his career, a record for players from the Greater Savannah area.

Trenton Rhodes, Jenkins

The senior ran for 101 yards and a score on eight carries, had five catches for 21 yards and added 125 yards in returns in a win at SE Bulloch.

James Mobley IV, Calvary Day

The sophomore quarterback threw for three touchdown passes in a win over Islands.

Tucker Perkins, Effingham County

The junior quarterback was 14 of 24 passing for 203 yards and three scores in a win at Evans.

Doopah Coleman, Calvary Day

The senior had a touchdown catch and returned a kickoff for a score in the win over Islands.

Trayvis Hunter, Effingham County

Had four catches for 59 yards and three touchdowns in the win over Evans.

Jordan Cheever, Bethesda Academy

Ran for 115 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a win over Dillon…
