One of college football’s biggest rivalries is set to officially be renewed this upcoming Saturday in Knoxville, as the Alabama Crimson Tide travel for a matchup against the rival Tennessee Volunteers.
Known as “The Third Saturday in October,” Alabama and Tennessee have a lengthy football history that dates all the way back to 1901. Over that span, the Crimson Tide and Volunteers have faced off a total of 106 times, with Alabama currently holding the all-time advantage in the series at 60-38-8.
When looking back at recent history between the two however, it has simply been all Alabama, as the Crimson Tide won 15-straight from 2007-21 under former head coach Nick Saban.
That was until the 2022 season when Tennessee snapped that losing streak in Knoxville by a final score of 52-49, which was the last time the Volunteers defeated Alabama. Prior to that, Tennessee’s last win came at home back in 2006, meaning that the Volunteers prior to 2022 had lost seven-straight in Knoxville.
Last season, Alabama also got their revenge in Tuscaloosa by defeating the Volunteers by a final score of 34-20. In the process, Alabama erased a 20-7 deficit at halftime, outscoring Tennessee a combined 27-0 in the second half altogether.
Easily one of the toughest tests remaining on Alabama’s schedule during the regular season, can the Crimson Tide start a new winning streak in Knoxville on Saturday?
