Vote: Who should be The Oklahoman’s 2024 midseason All-State Defensive Player of the Year?

There are still lots of games to be played in the 2024 Oklahoma high school football season, but several players across the state are clearly making their presence known and having big years.

Some are familiar names, while others were relatively unknown heading into the year.

With a just a few weeks left in the regular season, here are 15 candidates for The Oklahoman’s 2024 All-State Defensive Player of the Year.

These are not the only athletes under consideration and new players could later arise, but these 15 have made strong impressions.

Fans can vote on who they think is the best until noon Wednesday:

The Oklahoman’s 2024 All-State midseason Defensive Player of the Year candidates

Adam Auston, DB, Sr., Lawton MacArthur: The three-star Arkansas commit is rarely tested on his side of the defense but has recorded 32 tackles, three interceptions and two touchdowns so far in the secondary.

Adrian Avelar, LB, Sr., Tuttle: He has 72 tackles, including nine for loss, and six sacks.

Behr Boyd, LB, Sr., Norman: He’s the leader of the Tigers’ defense and has recorded 68 tackles, including 13 for loss, and has two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. Boyd also has 5.5 sacks.

Brady Brewer, LB/DB, Sr., Deer Creek: He has recorded 71 tackles while helping lead the Antlers’ defense.

Brayson Carter, DB, Sr., Blanchard: He has 51 tackles, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including one he returned for a touchdown. Also a standout receiver, Carter has 26 receptions for 388 yards and five scores and has returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
