Who is the Peoria Journal Star high school football MVP so far?

The Illinois high school football season has a couple of weeks remaining, but plenty of Peoria-area players have proven their worth on the field.

Now is your chance to let us know which player is the most valuable so far. So, who will it be?

Here are 10 Peoria-area MVP candidates so far for the 2024 high school football season. Information about each candidate is below. Vote from now until noon Thursday Oct. 24. The winner be be revealed ahead of Week 9.

Dylan Anderson, Pekin

The 5-foot-11, 168-pound sophomore wide receiver has been a touchdown-scoring machine this season. Anderson has found the end zone in all seven games this season for the Dragons (5-2). His latest score came on a 31-yard TD run in last week’s 42-7 win over Canton. Anderson also has two 80-yard TD catches this season.

Austin Gerber , Eureka

The 5-foot-7, 142-pound senior quarterback is the catalyst for the undefeated and the Class 3A eighth-ranked Hornets (7-0). Gerber is throwing for 165 yards a game, totaling 1,155 yards and eight touchdowns. His legs may even have been more dangerous, rushing for 410 yards and 10 TDs in seven games.

Breon Green, Peoria High

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound junior quarterback has orchestrated the potent Peoria High offense. The Class 5A sixth-ranked Lions have accounted for 3,726 total yards (1,299 passing, 2,427 rushing) along with 48 total TDs (31 rushing, 17 passing). Green threw for 290 yards and three TDs in a 46-40 win over Peoria Notre Dame in Week 2.
