Jets place safety Chuck Clark on IR with ankle injury

The Jets will be without one of their defensive starters for at least the next four games, as safety Chuck Clark was placed on IR on Tuesday afternoon.

Clark sustained an ankle injury during the first quarter of Monday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. Initial X-rays were negative, but Clark is reportedly dealing with a sprain, and he’ll now have to miss a minimum of four games.

The earliest Clark is eligible to return is Week 11, when the Jets host the Colts on Nov. 17 on Sunday Night Football.

Acquired in a trade prior to the start of the 2023 season, Clark missed all of last season with a torn ACL in June, but he fought his way back to earn a starting role alongside Tony Adams at safety.

In six games this season, Clark has 32 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

With Clark out, it’s likely that Ashytn Davis steps into the starting role, but the Jets also have veteran Jalen Mills on the practice squad, as well as Isaiah Oliver on the active roster.
