Conference titles, playoff points at stake in ninth week

Oct. 17—This is what it’s all about.

Geneva, Madison and Pymatuning Valley are scheduled to play big games Friday. There’s still one regular-season game left, but these contests are huge in the conference race and with playoff points.

In the Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division, the Blue Streaks play the Eagles at SPIRE Academy, while the Lakers host Windham in the Northeastern Athletic Conference.

Two other games involving Ashtabula County teams are on tap Friday, and one Saturday.

Friday

Madison (6-2) vs. Geneva (7-1) at SPIRE Academy

The battle for CVC Lake supremacy is on the docket. Last season, the Eagles posted a 42-21 win over the Blue Streaks, en route to a conference championship. Both teams are continuing their strong seasons in 2024. Will Randall has thrown for 1,063 yards and 10 TDs for Madison. Alexander Davis has made 11 receptions, five for scores. Dominic Lawrence leads the defense with 43 tackles, including 10 for loss, and three sacks. The Blue Streaks haven’t given up double-digit scoring to their opponents since allowing 14 to South in their second game. Likewise, the Eagles defense has been dynamic. They’ve given up double digits to opponents just twice this season. Offensively, Geneva continues to do what it does — run the ball. The Eagles have 2,694 team yards. Bryce Peet (776 yards), Hayden Diemer (628), Luke Barbo (573) and Caden Proy (446) lead the ground game. On defense, Jamil Daghlas leads the way with four sacks.

Windham (8-0) at PV (7-1)

Jack Eye has been the Bombers’ leader on offense this season with 1,238 yards rushing and 26 TDs. QB Ryan Croston (1,132 yards rushing) and back Ty Vickery (897) pace the Lakers on the ground. Croston is 26 of 50 for 528 yards and six TDs. Jayce Fulkman is averaging nearly 20 yards per catch. Defensively, Matt Adkins and John Finello have each…
