Florida football running backs Montrell Johnson Jr. and Treyaun Webb have been ruled as questionable for UF’s homecoming game Saturday against Kentucky at The Swamp (7:45 p.m., SEC Network).
Webb has missed UF’s last two games with a knee injury, while Johnson left the Tennessee game after twisting his knee during the third quarter of UF’s 23-17 overtime loss at No, 10 Tennessee.
Florida Gators coach Billy Napier confirmed that Webb, a sophomore from Jacksonville, did some work in practice this week.
Johnson, a preseason All-SEC running back, leads UF in rushing with 70 carries for 373 yards and 4 TDs. Webb has rushed for 93 yards and 1 TD.
If Webb and Johnson both can’t go, Florida would need to rely on true freshman running back Jadan Baugh (31 carries, 163 yards) and JUCO transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson (19 carries, 109 yards, 3 TDs) in the run game against the Wildcats.
“Welcome to the SEC,” Napier said. “I think ultimately that’s why you need depth at that position. That’s ultimately, you think back, that’s why we took Ja’Kobi Jackson mid-spring summer. You just need quality players and quality depth there because of the workload and obviously the brand of football that we play,”
Florida safety Asa Turner, who hasn’t played since UF’s season opener against Miami, also is listed as questionable, along with starting left tackle Austin Barber and long snapper Rocco Underwood. Linebacker RJ Moten, who suffered an injury during the Tennessee game, is out.
