Dabo Swinney and the No. 10 Clemson Tigers face a familiar foe in Week 8 as former Clemson offensive coordinator and current Virginia Cavaliers head coach Tony Elliott returns to Clemson for an ACC battle.
Clemson (5-1) is currently one of the hottest teams in college football, with starting quarterback Cade Klubnik among the nation’s top quarterbacks. After a few down years, the Tigers’ offense is finally back on track and looking explosive. That, along with another strong Clemson defense, has this program in a phenomenal position.
Virginia (4-2) is experiencing its best season yet under Elliott. Although his stint with the Cavaliers was rough before this season, he’s turned things around phenomenally. Virginia is on the rise in the ACC.
With gameday fast approaching, here are our Clemson Wire staff score predictions for the exciting matchup.

Clemson should win this game by more, but here’s why I don’t think they will. Dabo Swinney does not run up the score; it’s simply not the type of coach he is. As soon as he can get the backups into this game, he’s going to. ESPECIALLY against a former Clemson coach such as Tony Elliott.
I’m not trying to take the Cavaliers lightly here, it’s more about Clemson than them. This team is humming, man. In the past few years, that slow start against Wake Forest would have 100% told you where the rest of the game was going. A Clemson offensive struggle. Well, not this year. Klubnik has taken the next step and this program looks like it’s back to competing for the big one. They should have no issues with this one.
