In this week’s Swampcast, the Gainesville Sun’s Kevin Brockway wraps up Florida football’s convincing 48-20 win over Kentucky on homecoing at The Swamp.
The Florida Gators (4-3, 2-2 SEC) snapped a three-game losing to UK dating back to the 2021 season in a must win game before a brutal four-game stretch beginning Nov. 2 against No. 4 Georgia in Jacksonville.
Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway completed 7 of 14 passes for 259 yards with one interception in his second career start, while true freshman running back Jadan Baugh rushed for 106 yards on 22 carries with 5 TDs to spark the UF offense. Lagway improved to 2-0 as a starter for UF and connected on four pass plays of 40 yards or more.
“Second career start for DJ Lagway and it could not have gone any better, especially in terms of the throws downfield,” Brockway said,
After Georgia, Florida will play at No. 1 Texas on Nov. 9, face No. 8 LSU at The Swamp on Nov. 16 and take on No. 15 Ole Miss at The Swamp on Nov. 23. Brockway noted Florida’s defense has raised its level of late, allowing an average of just 18.7 points in three October games.
“Florida’s defense is going to need to remain on point if the Gators can build off this momentum and get another win or two in November and set them up in position to go to a bowl.” Brockway said.
